WHO ARE WE
At Springdale Angus our goal has been to breed a type of animal that has good leg structure and strong bone, has depth and width or carcass, meat in the hind quarters, and has good shoulder and length of neck for calving ease. Cows must rear a good calf. We have culled heavily over the past years as only the best will do. We are extremely proud to have bred good natured cattle which are easy to handle.
In 1980 we purchased 242 hectares in the Taringamotu Valley at Ngakonui, and so created Springdale Angus stud, named for the many natural springs on the property. Following the purchase of an adjacent farm in 1992 we now farm 394 hectares with the land being pumice flats and easy hills.
The foundation stock of Springdale Angus were based on Lairdvale and Puketutu genetics, and over the years no expense has been spared in the purchase of top quality sires. Semen and sire purchases have resulted in bloodlines from Rawhiti, Stern, Turiroa and Matauri studs, but mostly we have found Kaharau and Rangatira studs’ sires have suited our type of cattle. In recent years, yearling sires have been purchased from Stokman and Waitangi studs.
